Q:  What does “sucks” mean?  When can I use this word?  (W.B., Berlin , Germany ,   August 20, 2002 )

A:  “Sucks” is a slang term.  It is informal, and is popular with youth.  If something “sucks,” it is bad.

For example:  If the school football team has never won a game, a student may say “Our school’s football team sucks.”
