The dedication of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial was originally scheduled for August 28, 2011, the 48th anniversary of the "I Have a Dream" speech, but was postponed due to Hurricane Irene. The MLK Memorial opened to the public on August 22, 2011.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, D.C. The Memorial will be dedicated on Sunday, August 28, 2011. The dedication coincides with the 48th anniversary of the March on Washington and King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, delivered at the Lincoln Memorial*.
The figure of Dr. King was sculpted by renowned artist Master Lei Yixin 1  |  2  |  3 (w/ a video)   Believe it or not, we were very fortunate to talk with Master Lei Yixin while he participated in the Minnesota Rocks! International Stone Carving Symposium (May 22 - June 30, 2006), St. Paul, MN.
